A quality field experience is the result of good planning before the experience ever begins
The mission and goals of the Public Health Nutrition Program set a long range agenda to guide
curriculum development, projects, activities and research. .

block field work in Public Health Nutrition. Through them students develop an
understanding of and appreciation for the realities of public health nutrition practice and how
nutrition-related community needs are addressed by available health care programs.
Planning the 8-Week Block Field Experience
The block field experience includes one (1) week at The University of Tennessee, Boling Center

Develop and strengthen a public health research thrust which focuses on addressing the
nutritional needs of the maternal and child population;
Ensure excellence in education and training through evaluation at regular intervals the
curriculum, instructional quality, and concurrent and block field experiences;
Expand cooperative relationships with both federal, state, and local health agencies and
the public and private sectors to foster public health nutrition research;
Support the Nutrition Institute as the arm of the department which facilitates the
integration of concepts and resources from diverse disciplines across the university for
application to problems in human nutrition, including those faced by individuals,
families, and communities, and those with special health care needs;
Continue to provide and evaluate continuing education interventions for public health
nutritionists and establish the public health nutrition program as the Southeastern United
States' Continuing Education Center for Public Health Nutrition
